As part of a very special celebration of International Children’s Day (1 June) the EU Ambassador Serge Abou presented awards to the 10 winners of the EU and Me Art Competition who were visiting WAB.

30,000 students out of 1.2 million school children in the poorest and most underdeveloped parts of Gansu Province took part in the competition, which helped commemorate 30 years of diplomatic relations between Europe and China and a special development European funded project that has supported education in the province.

The 10 winners (ranging in age from 5 – 13 years) of the competition spent two days at WAB working with WAB students in art workshops and techniques and having a wonderful time.  WAB has had a special connection with Gansu Province for some time now having responded to devastating earthquakes there three years ago.  Each year Grade 9 students visit Gansu as part of their week long China Studies Field Trip. The exhibition of over 100 artworks are on display in the Elementary School this week.
